How do you monitor your DNS servers?

I created a custom domain with an A record and TTL of 5 minutes. Now a script updates the a record with the current hour of the day, e.g. 127.0.11 at 11 o’clock. My monitoring now checks if the A record resolves to this number. So I can see if the DNS servers are up to date.
